The Pram Race

The first of these was run in the early 1980s and, although the event proved extremely popular, the original organisers were unable to continue running it and it was dropped from Old Town Festival and Carnival activities for a few years.

However, it was revived and is now more popular than ever.  Trophies are given for the fastest team, the best pram and to the team who collect most money for Old Town Festival and Carnival charities.  The quality of the prams and costumes gets better every year with everything from a dragon to a dalek having been entered!
