The Giants of Brede
Steam power was the lifeblood of the 1900s. It was used to lift water from deep wells into treatment works and then to pump clean water to local reservoirs built in high ground for distribution by gravity to homes and businesses.
Part restoration workshop, part exhibition, ‘the Giants of Brede’ offers visitors several period examples of the best British engineering being renovated to impressive high standards.
Two triple expansion steam engines and a 1940s Worthington Simpson engine (the last of its kind) are among the star attractions which also include a range of lovingly restored water artefacts from an earlier collection kept by Folkestone and Dover water services.
The Giants of Brede offers one of 1066 Country’s most compelling and inspiring heritage experiences.
